Derry Demons Football Divisions

Football

  • Flag - Ages 5-8: Must be 5 before 7/31: Cannot turn 9 on or before 7/31.
  • Junior High League - Grades 3rd-6th

As members of JHL, New Hampshire's largest league, your child will have the opportunity to play against the same towns they will meet in high school: Salem, Nashua, Londonderry, Manchester, Hudson, etc.

Youth- Grades: 3rd & 4th (grade)

  • Rules shall follow the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) rule book, except as noted in the JHL Rules (linked below).
  • Ready 2nd graders able to play up. This is a collaborative parent/ coach decision. 
  • Youth Teams will play a Varsity and JV Game (3rd/4th Grade).

Junior- Grades: 5th & 6th (grade)

  • Rules shall follow the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) rule book, except as noted in the JHL Rules (linked below).
  • Ready 4th graders able to play up. This is a collaborative parent/ coach decision. 
  • Junior Teams will play a Varsity and JV Game (5th/6th Grade).

Level/Team Designation

  • 1. Varsity Game: Competitive
  • 2. JV Game: Developmental

NOTE: Team designation is based on a player’s physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as talent/skill level and will be made at the discretion of Demons Football Coordinators after athlete evaluation.

Cheer

  • Division 6- Ages *4, 5 and 6
  • Division 8- Ages 7 and 8
  • Division 10- Ages 9 and10
  • Division 16- Grades 9-12
    • Disclosure- All 5- & 6-year-olds will register on D6. 
    • No 5/6-year-old will be moved to D8 prior to a coach and parent discussion. This decision is at the discretion of coaches and cheer coordinators only. If a 5/6-year-old is place on the D8 team the parent will then be responsible to pay the remaining registration balance for the D8 team.
    • *4 year olds MUST be going into Kindergarten for the 25/26 school year

 

*NHYFSC Open Territory bylaw. “…Any association whose boundary abuts an open territory may recruit players from that same area. Players or cheerleaders who reside in open territory may choose the most convenient program. However, once certified on a particular association’s roster, they must continue in the same program year to year and may not switch. Associations are obligated to inform parents of candidates who reside in an open territory that they have a choice. Failure to do so could result in a player or cheerleader being released to an abutting association.”* 

Additional Obligations & Expenses For Both Football & Cheer:

 

Volunteer Hours – Each family is required to complete volunteer hours to help out with the organization. The exact number of hours will be determined based on registration numbers, but expect 4-9 hours per season.

Mandatory Fundraising – Each Family is required to participate in a fundraiser at the start of the season. This year we will be selling CASH CALENDARS! We have received generous cash, gift cards, and general merchandise donations from local sponsors. Each family will be required to fundraise the minimum $200 per household (Please come ready to pre-pay for the calendars at the beginning of the season). The cash calendars will sell for $10 each. The drawings will be every day for the month of October! 

Possible Tagging Hours – Depending on the success of pre-season fundraisers (such as the Golf Tournament, Football Squares, and upcoming events), additional tagging hours may be required. We are hoping to eradicate them completely this year!

To register your athlete, please follow the  steps below carefully.  All steps/forms must be completed and turned in before ANY athlete takes the field in any capacity. to include practices and games. If you have multiple children participating, we will need you to go through this process for each of them.

STEP 1- Derry Demons Website

You will need to register your athlete on the Derry Demons website, this is also where you will make your payment.   Please scroll down to Demons register here to complete the registration. 

STEP 2 - DOCUMENTS

  • ​​​​​NEW ATHLETES Copy of Birth Certificate 
  • ALL ATHLETES Medical Clearance Form
  • ALL ATHLETES MTBI Form

  • THERE ARE TWO REGISTRAR EMAILS. One for football and one for cheer. 
  • ALL documents will be emailed this year.
  • Please scan and email ALL documents at the same time for your athlete. If you are waiting for a medical form that is fine, please hold off until you have everything to give at once.
  • If you can't scan them in and need to take a photo, please do so in GOOD lighting and a close shot on the document.
  • The subject of your email containing documents should be your athletes last name and first initial (example:  SMITH, J) They will be receiving HUNDREDS of emails, so we appreciate your cooperation in this. 

 

STEP 3 - State website

State Registration is required for Flag and Cheer ONLY. 

JHL will register with the Derry Demons only.

Your athlete will not be considered registered until state registration has been completed.

Football Registrar

FLAG FOOTBALL

Flag Football: Ages 5-8

  • All athletes must be 5 before 7/31.
  • Athletes cannot turn 9 on or before 7/31.
  • Athletes will practice 3 days a week from the start of the season until the beginning of the school year.
  • Once the school year begins flag athletes will practice twice a week.
  • Games played on Sunday.

Additional Obligations:

  • Volunteer hours: mandatory per family, exact number of hours TBD (based on registration numbers).
  • Cash Calendar: mandatory.  Each family will be required to fundraise the minimum $200 per household (Please come ready to pre-pay for the calendars at the beginning of the season). The cash calendars will sell for $10 each. The drawings will be every day for the month of October!
  • Possible Tagging Hours – Depending on the success of pre-season fundraisers (such as the Golf Tournament, Football Squares, and upcoming events), additional tagging hours may be required. We are hoping to eradicate them completely this year!

Additional expenses not included in registration:

  • Mouthguard
  • Cleats
  • Water Bottle
  • Game Socks
  • Black shorts (with no pockets)

TACKLE FOOTBALL

Youth- Grades: 3rd & 4th (grade)

  • Rules shall follow the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) rule book, except as noted in the JHL Rules (linked below).
  • Ready 2nd graders able to play up. This is a collaborative parent/ coach decision. 
  • 3rd/4th will play as one team unless registration numbers allow two teams to be created.

Junior- Grades: 5th & 6th (grade)

  • Rules shall follow the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) rule book, except as noted in the JHL Rules (linked below).
  • Ready 4th graders able to play up. This is a collaborative parent/ coach decision. 
  • Junior Teams will play a Varsity and JV Game (5th/6th Grade).

CHEERLEADING

The Derry Demons Youth Football and Cheer program offers an amazing opportunity for children ages *4-16, to play a competitive sport.
*4 year olds MUST be going into Kindergarten for the 25/26 school year

Commitment:

All practices, games and cheer competitions are mandatory for each athlete. We want to make sure everyone understands joining a team is a huge time commitment for the athlete as well as the parents.  Excused absences are the ONLY exception.

Practices:

  • All practices are held Monday through Thursday (typically starting near the end of July) at Hood Middle School (Buckley Field) until Labor Day.
  • After Labor Day practices move inside and will be held 2 days a week for D6 and 3 days a week for D8, D10, and D16- until November (coaches' discretion).
  • Additional practice may be added as needed and are not uncommon during comp season. 
  • Post season requirements TBD.

Football Games:

The AYC no longer requires cheering at football games. However, the Demons Board of Directors believes in the mindset, we are "one team, and one family" and as such- will require cheerleaders to attend all local games. Other games will be left to the discretion of the coaches, coordinators, and Demons Board of Directors.

Competitions:

  • Each cheer team competes in 4 Invitational Competitions: The Season Premiere, The Cheer Xplosion (this event is co-hosted by the Derry Demons and Derry Wolverines), Battle at the Border and The Fall Classic.
  • Each team will also have a chance to compete at a State Competition.
  • If Division 10 qualifies they may also compete at a Regional and National Competition.

Equipment:

The Derry Demons Organization will provide the athletes cheer uniform, game bows and a comp t-shirt.  Below please find a list of required and optional expenses.

Note: If your child’s team advances to Nationals, a separate expense breakdown will be provided at the beginning of the season.
